A few months ago I was lucky enough to go to a talk with Anya Hindmarch. An amazing designer, creative thinker and entrepreneur at heart.
The talk was on how Hindmarch broke into the fashion industry and how various elements like technology have impacted her career. A truly inspirational story, Hindmarch got her start at a very young age, buying leather goods from Italy and reselling them in the UK. She broke into designing these bags and worked under notable figures in the industry – learning all that she could. Building up her empire one piece at a time she is now one of the world’s most renowned designers, recognised for her playful touches to chic, high end fashion. Anya Hindmarch has learned the game and played it exceptionally well, detailing key moments like how she opened her first franchise in Asia, collaborated with British Airways on first class hospitality bags and nailed the influencer strategy with high profile models showcasing her coveted leather letter accessories. Crushing life.
Outside the event, I bumped into Anya Hindmarch with my friend as she was waiting for a cab. Aside from being what seemed like the loveliest , most down to earth person, she left me with a piece of advice: Start Something. Start Anything.
Those words have been hanging over me for a few months now. There are so many ideas and possibilities in this world that you really do just need to start. Its not about waiting for the best thing or the perfect opportunity, its about using what you have, going out there and making the perfect opportunity. You will truly never know, unless you start. And really, there is no better time for new beginnings.
